Teachers Strike!

Yesterday the teachers of NZ went on a mega strike protesting for better pay and conditions. Many primary and secondary teachers attended the strike but in total there were around 50,000 teachers.

If there weren't teachers people wouldn't have there jobs that they have today. I'm sure that most people from government have been taught by teachers so therefore they wouldn't have their job in government if they weren't taught the things they know!

The government should think faster and should let the teachers have what they want. As for my teachers, Mr Ried went on strike yesterday protesting with the other teachers. Teachers give children a good education. The government has already decided to have their pay rise about 3% and I agree with the teachers because that is not enough!

Samoan Language Week Begins!

Yesterday marked the start of Samoan language week. Many performances will be held across the country to celebrate the Pacific Island culture. In my opinion I think it's a good idea to have performances to celebrate the culture of Samoa.

This Friday the Samoan pupils at my school have the choice to wear Samoan clothing to show other students what Samoan people wear. I'm still deciding wither I'm going to wear something but it depends if I do have Samoan clothing.

Samoan Words:

Afio mai or Susu mai or Maliu mai – Welcome
Fa’afetai or Fa’afetai tele – Thank you
Ou te alofa ia te oe – I love you
Ia vave ona e manuia – Get well soon
Fa’amolemole – Please
Fa’amalie atu – Sorry
Malō, Malō soifua or Tālofa – Hello
Fā or Tōfā or Tōfā soifua – Goodbye
A malu i fale, e malu i fafo – Respect yourself and others will
E tua le fale tele i le faleo’o – Even the mighty needs others.

Bread Prices Are Increasing!

In New Zealand bread prices are increasing. The reason why the prices of bread are increasing is because most of the wheat that New Zealand has is imported from Australia which is why the price is increasing. Bread is healthy and yummy and that's why the price should stay the same.

I think it's a bad idea to increase the prices of bread because whenever students go to school they need sandwiches which uses bread. If the prices of bread increase homeless people might not have enough money to buy it therefore I think the prices should stay the same.

My Day At Soccer!

Yesterday was the day that our y7/8 and y5/6 team went to football (soccer) interschools at Pt England Reserve. There were a lot of teams from each schools which means that we had a lot of games which was true. I saw that other schools had nutritional and healthy lunches while we had chocolate, lollies, powerade and many unhealthy food.

At 10:45 our first game started. Our opponents were Panmure District which had a bright blue and green uniform. We had a great start until ..... they scored a goal. We ended up losing to most of the games we played but we only came a tie in 2 games. Although we didn't win any games I still had a fun time competing with my team!

New Zealand Music Month

Music month in New Zealand is a way to celebrate all the music made in New Zealand including the musicians them self. The New Zealand music month first started off as music week but by 2001 it had became a New Zealand Music Month.

I think its a good idea to have a New Zealand music month that way young musicians can express their voice with the whole country. There are going to be music gigs around the country for young musicians to come and celebrate music. I hope that more people get to make music and find a way to express it!

NZ Teachers Go On Strike

Some New Zealand teachers are going on a strike. The strike will involve up to 50,00 teachers from two unions, NZEI for primary school teachers and the Post Primary Teachers' which is for secondary school teachers.

I think it's a good idea having the teachers going on strike for a higher pay rise because no one else is teaching the kids except for the teachers themselves. The teachers have tried hard to agree with the government but the government is only giving them a 3% pay increase.

Kiwi Can

On Tuesday room 12 had their lesson with Kiwi Can. It was a fun lesson that had one meaning to it and it was integrity. Our topic today was honesty which was about telling the truth. The tutors we had were Miss Tuia and Mrs Mac. Mrs Mac was filling in for Mr Matt , kind of like a substitute.

The activities we had were Bang, Changes and G.K.Q. (general knowledge questions). Lastly we had a hot seat it was just questions we wanted to ask the tutors. I think its a good idea learning about honestly that way more students in room 12 can think before they want to tell a lie.
