The Food Prices Are Rising!

Now that New Zealand is on Coronavirus alert level 4, all non-essential work businesses and shops are closed such as liquor stores, butchers and warehouses. Leaving all supermarkets and dairies open for people to buy their shopping during the lock down.

Many complaints have been sent to Jessica Wilson (Consumer NZ Head Of Research) saying that shops have increased the price of essential products by a lot! To be more specific it's now $8 for bread, $14 for cauliflower and $30 for chicken.

Another major increase is the price for face masks and hand sanitizer. No one should be paying $50 or $60 for it. They'll probably end up decreasing the price when the Coronavirus alert level 4 is done and it's safe for people to come out.

Other than that stay inside and be safe! Only let your parents go to the shops at a time.

The Warriors Are Staying In Australia

As you might already know our rugby league team has now decided to stay in Australia until the whole 2020 rugby season has finished. Their decision was due to the new border rules between New Zealand and Australia.

Unfortunately their families aren't able to accompany them on the Gold Coast. Surely they'll do good over the next few weeks!

Will Our Money Be Gone By 2023?

A new study in New Zealand shows that most of our money would most likely be gone in three years. The reason for this is that by 2023 a lot of people would probably end up using online shopping which means paying with eftpos and credit cards.

Mobile wallets such as apple pay, google pay and paypal are very famous for online shopping/banking. In my opinion I do think that we should use notes and coins as it's much more easier to buy things that way.

Hone Heke Cut Down The Flag Pole!

It has been 175 years ever since Hone Heke Pokai had cut down the flag pole in 1845. It had all begun when Hone Heke Pokai and Te Ruki Kawiti merged teams and had cut down the British flagstaff. Then the beginning of the Flagstaff war had begun!

There was a ceremony held Far North and it had Kororareka Marae chairperson Deb Rewiri give the chance to everyone to remember the legacy of these two people.

Deb Rewiri had spoken saying that this commemoration was a reminder to tell people that they should hold onto their Rangatiratangi.

Predator Free By 2050!

Now that New Zealand has become overcrowded with pests, the government has decided to use drones to help get rid of them. Each drone will cost $790,000 and that's alot of money!

Drones have not been used in New Zealand but drones will be the key to help get rid of pests as it has a lot of energy and can self reset way more times than a electronic trap. These drones also fly around beaches encase of any other pests.

Maybe with all these drones helping by doing the jobs of humans we might actually get rid of all pests by the year 2050!

There's Coronavirus In A Church?

On Sunday a man who had been infected with the Coronavirus had spread it to six people in a Auckland church! This man who had the coronavirus was tested for the disease but his tests weren't back until Friday not when he had received holy communion at his local church.

When he arrived in New Zealand he went to St Mary's church in Papakura and it happens to be the same 60 year old guy who flew in from Iran with the virus. Father Murphy (priest of St Marys) had said that during mass they used hand sanitizer so that they don't spread germs.

He also said that they always turn the cup and wipe it so that mouths don't always go on the same place that other people's mouth had went.

Make sure to use hand sanitizer and soap to protect yourself from Coronavirus.

COVID - 19 Is Causing Air New Zealand Not To Travel

As you know the popular Coronavirus has been spreading all around the world, first Wuhan, China and then many countries after that. Due to that outbreak Air New Zealand has suspended flights to Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, Buenos Aires, Vancouver, Tokyo, Honolulu, Denpasar, Taipei and London.

Air New Zealand will also be lowering flight numbers to the Pacific. To reduce the chances of you getting Coronavirus, don't touch people and wash your hands well!

Learning More About Pests

Today Frazer came to our school to teach Room 7 and Room 1 more about pests. He also took us for a walk around the school so that we could lay traps and us students could do the jobs we talked about in class.

The jobs we had assigned to us were pulling moth plants, placing ribbons on trees, placing traps, nailing chew cards/wax traps and spreading peanut butter on the tracking card. He also talked us through different kind of pest footprints and chew bites.

During that lesson Frazer also handed out little pest themed gift bags and each of us a tracking tunnel, (that we had to fold ourselves).

Frazer also gave both Mrs Cardoza and Mr Ried a gift bag, tracking tunnel and one weta hotel that will be used throughout the year by the intermediate classes!

Free Energy!

Yesterday at science tech we were learning how to make free energy! What I mean by free energy was that we were going to find out a way to make light bulbs work without turning on any switches. Before we could do our experiment we had to watch a video on how to do it.

For our experiment we collaborated with St Pius X. As we were listening to what Ms. Sharma was saying about light bulbs we listed ways we could make free energy at home and maybe at school!

Unfortunately our experiment didn't work but hopefully we're allowed to try it again next week.

Avocado Milk

There is a new trend with Avocado Milk! It was invented by a kiwi food guru Sachie Nomura. This avocado milk is sold in over 100 stores in the United States of America and might even by in stock at our local supermarkets and dairy's.

This avocado milk was also rewarded the healthiest drink due to how healthy it is! For those people in New Zealand who haven't tried this I suggest try to make your own Avocado milk at home!

Avocado Milk Ingredients:
Avocados
Oat Milk
Sugar

Method:
1. Mash avocados till is has a runny consistency.
2. Add milk and stir.
3. Add 1 teaspoon of sugar then stir.
4. Enjoy!

You Could Win $10,000 Dollars For Finding A Bird?

For three years there has been a reward for who ever finds or sees the South Island Kokako. Over the three years there have been 200 possible cases of people seeing this bird. This bird has been extinct since 2013 and the South Island Kokako Charitable Trust have spoken saying that there are no facts saying that the bird is still alive.

Most people have been submitting a lot of photos saying that they've seen the bird but the photo was identified as one of our other native birds, tui!

Save Energy!

Yesterday at science tech our teacher Ms. Palvi Sharma had showed us many ways to save energy in our house. She had shown us videos on what we can do to save energy and as she was doing that we were bullet pointing problems that cause energy being wasted.

Turns out incandescent light bulbs consume's ALOT of energy. Other than that we could all try to save energy by doing simple things such as not using air cons, turning off lights and having shorter showers!

Someone Spotted A Whale Shark?

Off the coast of Tauranga a whale shark has been spotted swimming through the water. Only a few people got to see the miracle whale shark in action. The people who saw the animal said it had swam below the boat and that's when it caught their eye.

People say whale sharks aren't very fast but this is their first time spotting one!

Coronavirus In NZ!😷

As everyone knows, Coronavirus has been spreading all around the world. Now it has hit New Zealand. What happened was a 60 year-old from Iran flew into our country earlier this week with the virus. The man that came into New Zealand has now been quarantined in Auckland City Hospital.

According to Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield, if the Coronavirus starts spreading from one person to the other, people will die!  They were saying that Australia has only been having a small amount of cases and deaths so it's most likely we should expect that too.

One kiwi had just returned to New Zealand from Italy saying that she's putting herself in self-isolation to prevent others from getting the virus in case they have it.

Symptoms Of Coronavirus:
Fever
After 2 to 7 Days Develop Dry Cough
Mild Breathing Difficulties At The Outset
Gas Issues
Diarrhea
General Body Aches

To protect yourself from Coronavirus I suggest wearing hospital face masks and gloves to stay safe and to prevent you and your family from catching COVID-19!

Hamlin Hills Trip!

On Friday both intermediate classes had our first field trip for this year. The trip was related to our topic for this term which is PESTS! On the day of our trip we had a small lesson from our tour guide Frazier explaining what we were going to see on the trip and what we need to look for.

Nobody really knew where Hamlin Hill was but turns out most of us drive past it almost every time we go to Sylvia Park! During the trip Limiteti (one of the students) had a close encounter with a rat that nearly gave her a heart attack! Not only was there a rat moving around in the forest but there was a dead mouse in one of the traps that Frazier had mentioned!

As we were hiking up the mountain we started seeing more traps and ribbons that Frazier said we were going to see. The ribbons were different colours, so that means different codes such as Pink for Pests and Blue for Clues.
