Save Energy!

Yesterday at science tech our teacher Ms. Palvi Sharma had showed us many ways to save energy in our house. She had shown us videos on what we can do to save energy and as she was doing that we were bullet pointing problems that cause energy being wasted.

Turns out incandescent light bulbs consume's ALOT of energy. Other than that we could all try to save energy by doing simple things such as not using air cons, turning off lights and having shorter showers!

Earthworms!

Yesterday at Tamaki College our science teacher made us study about Earthworms! We had to look at the behaviours between all four worms that each group had. The worms were all different shapes and sizes.

We learnt alot about the Earthworms and its lifestyle. Turns out worms are invertebrate which means they have no back bone and their made out of male and female cells so their are no genders.

I loved learning about Earthworms and maybe next week we can learn more!

Science Class At Tamaki College!

Yesterday we went to technicraft at Tamaki College. I was in the first science class that the students of Ruapotaka had attended to. Along with me I had tons of plastic that was needed in one of our experiments. With the plastic we had to assort them into groups such as polystyrene, polyvinyl and many more.

Our science teacher then had us cut out strips of paper that was soon going to be glued into our science project book. With the strips of paper we used it to be glued on our book with each statements put into either positive, negative or neutral.

Soon after one of the chemistry teachers from Tamaki College handed out lollipops to our science class!

My Finished Product!

On Wednesday it was our last tech for the year. My group was in graphics with our tutor Mrs Ferguson. We spent the whole term designing and doing research for our juice cartons.

My fake juice carton was called Blueberry Pop. It had a straw on one side, a ingredients tab on the other and a fun maze to do at the back. Unfortunately I couldn't get the back to stick so I taped it on. For me the hot glueing bit was very hard as you had to stick on the sides while it was still hot.

Drawing the barcode was also very difficult as you have to draw and colour in a lot of lines, but it was fun. I had fun making this juice carton and hopefully we get to make more things like this.

Me!

Yesterday was the day when we switched technicraft groups. I thought graphics was fun and turns out it was! The first thing we created was a me which is a poster about yourself. Here is my poster about myself.

My First Ever Wood Joint!

Yesterday at Technicraft it was the best as it was the day that I got to cut out my first joint! It was really uneven but yet it was still okay to cut out.

I tried to make my joints even but Mr
Grundy had to cut it out and make it smooth. As I was cutting my joint up to half way I accidentally went a bit over the marking line.

After I did that Mr Grundy smoothed out my finished joint which I could attach to my other piece of wood!

Wood Work With Mr Grundy

Today was the first day my fellow year 7's and I went to Technicraft at Tamaki College. I had a good experience in Mr Grundy's class drawing sketches of what we want to create. St Pius was another school that we had in wood work.

Soon after Mr Grundy demonstrated what it would look like when our sketches were finished. If you create a sketch you first have to know where the joints of your creation is going to be.
