Today was our third session with Mr Grundy. This was the day when our teacher tried to get us to trace our final design and cut it but unfortunately not all of us finished. We are making necklaces but in order to make them we had to fill out our pewter workbook.
Pewter is a type of material that is the colour silver. This is what we are using to make our necklaces out of. We have to have 4 people that would be chosen to have a necklace made for, you could also add yourself to one of the 4 people. For my final design I have decided to make a flower for my mum.
It was my first time ever using a machine that could cut something out. My design that I cut out was a bit crooked with a few lines that were meant to be curves. It was fun this week learning how to use a machine!
I am a Year 8 student at Ruapotaka School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Room 1 and my teacher is Mr Reid.

My First Ever Wood Joint!
Yesterday at Technicraft it was the best as it was the day that I got to cut out my first joint! It was really uneven but yet it was still okay to cut out.

I tried to make my joints even but Mr
Grundy had to cut it out and make it smooth. As I was cutting my joint up to half way I accidentally went a bit over the marking line.
After I did that Mr Grundy smoothed out my finished joint which I could attach to my other piece of wood!

Woodwork At Tech!
Today at technicraft I was making the joints for my design. I had to make sure that my joints were alike and had the exact measurements. It took a while to draw my joints because every time I tried to draw it, it was either uneven or in the wrong spot.
It was about the 5th time I tried and got it right, then I was able to move on. I chiselled my joints to make an effort to finish it. After that I was so happy to be able to finish my work and move on!

Done and Dusted!😁
Today at tech I was finally finished sketching my design! Mr Grundy has been saying that whoever finishes their last sketch first wins a handful of M&M's , but unfortunately I didn't win. I felt proud that I finally finished my sketch instead of being one of the last students.
As soon as I finished we had to pack up because tech was finished and schools were leaving. If you haven't read my recent blog post then you wouldn't know what I am making. I am making a photo frame!

Our Second Week With Mr Grundy
Our first week with Mr Grundy was about sketching eight designs that we thought would work, move and be safe. The next week was all about which design we thought would be the best to make.
Instead of making a M&M dispenser I thought it would be way cooler to make a photo frame. First we had to think about where the joints of our wood were going to go. Mr Grundy went over the main questions I should be thinking about like "What will my creation be used for"?
I am excited for what the third week of tech with Mr Grundy!

Wood Work With Mr Grundy
Today was the first day my fellow year 7's and I went to Technicraft at Tamaki College. I had a good experience in Mr Grundy's class drawing sketches of what we want to create. St Pius was another school that we had in wood work.
Soon after Mr Grundy demonstrated what it would look like when our sketches were finished. If you create a sketch you first have to know where the joints of your creation is going to be.
