A number of students skipping school is increasing! Most students have been skipping school because of illnesses. Tracey Martin (Associate Minister for Education) has spoke saying that Maori and Pacific students are most likely to skip school.
Tracey Martin says that more parents should encourage their students to go to school more often instead of staying home!
I am a Year 8 student at Ruapotaka School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Room 1 and my teacher is Mr Reid.

Earthworms!
Yesterday at Tamaki College our science teacher made us study about Earthworms! We had to look at the behaviours between all four worms that each group had. The worms were all different shapes and sizes.
We learnt alot about the Earthworms and its lifestyle. Turns out worms are invertebrate which means they have no back bone and their made out of male and female cells so their are no genders.
I loved learning about Earthworms and maybe next week we can learn more!

Science Class At Tamaki College!
Yesterday we went to technicraft at Tamaki College. I was in the first science class that the students of Ruapotaka had attended to. Along with me I had tons of plastic that was needed in one of our experiments. With the plastic we had to assort them into groups such as polystyrene, polyvinyl and many more.
Our science teacher then had us cut out strips of paper that was soon going to be glued into our science project book. With the strips of paper we used it to be glued on our book with each statements put into either positive, negative or neutral.
Soon after one of the chemistry teachers from Tamaki College handed out lollipops to our science class!

Missing Coggen!
Today we had our very first Duffy Show of 2020! The theme of the show was the Missing Coggen. The show was very funny and we had excellent actors! Cj played The Coggen and Mum while Josh played Aaron, Duffy, Courier and Falepa played Bex.
I loved the show, but it was upsetting considering the fact that the books they were reading in the story about The Coggen wasn't actually real! A Coggen has a head of a Cat, body of a Chicken and legs of a Dog.
The show was great and hopefully we get to see the next part of the story somewhere through out this year!

NZ Stops Mail To and From China!
These past few weeks have been very chaotic with the Corona virus! Due to that horrific outbreak our country (NZ) have banned mail to and from China. This rule took effect on the 17th of February and might even last the whole year!
NZ post have spoken saying "If you were expecting a post from China it'll probably say significant delays" due to the outbreak. Another reason why they have banned packages is because flights can't be flown to China as all aircraft's in NZ have been banned to fly in and out to the country.
Once China is able to deliver packages then NZ will start suspending the rules.

Flooding In Southland
In Southland there has been a lot of flooding leaving residents to evacuate. People near Gore and Mataura have been told to pack their bags in case they need to evacuate.
Some people that live there said that they lived their for a very long time but they can't describe the rain they've had these last few days.
Simple things like heavy rain causes flooding!
